Lucas Oil Raceway (Indianapolis, Ind.) April 25-27

The upcoming 2014 NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Series event at Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis will mark the 45th time since 1968 that the track has hosted NHRA’s premiere sportsman drag racing series.

There will be two JEGS Mail Order cars entered in this weekend’s event driven by Troy Coughlin Jr., who will be pulling double duty in and Super Comp and Super Gas.

During his career, Troy Jr. has appeared in five NHRA Lucas Oil Series final rounds and posted two wins. Four of those finals came in 2013 when he posted wins in Norwalk, Ohio and Bowling Green, Ky. to go with runner-up finishes in Reynolds, Ga., and Columbus, Ohio.

Troy Coughlin Jr. is currently ranked second in Super Gas and fourth in Super Comp in the battle to secure a spot in the JEGS Allstars Competition later this summer.

Collectively, the Coughlin family has appeared in 11 final rounds at the Indianapolis Lucas Oil Series event, and has garnered nine wins.

All told, the Coughlin family has won 54 Lucas Oil Series races in 78 final round appearances.

Troy Jr’s uncle, Mike Coughlin, is a two-time winner of the Top Sportsman class at the Indy event. In 2008 he defeated Tim Kirman in the final round and in 2011, he drove his JEGS.com entry to a final round victory over Billy Thoman.

In 2008, John and Mike Coughlin both found the winner’s circle at Lucas Oil Raceway when John claimed the Super Stock title and Mike won in Top Sportsman.

Family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won the Pro Comp title at the Indianapolis Lucas Oil Series event in 1976. Jeg Sr. also won the Top Fuel title at the event in 1978.

The Coughlin family has also won the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway eight times. In addition to Jeg Jr’s four Pro Stock wins, his brother, Troy, won the Super Gas title in 1991 and brother Mike collected two wins in the Pro Stock Truck class in 1999 and 2001 and Troy Jr. claimed the Super Comp title in 2010. In addition, John Coughlin won the U.S. Nationals as a car owner in 2005 when Brad Plourd drove his JEGS Mail Order dragster to the Super Comp title.

The Coughlin family has combined to win 15 NHRA North Central Division championships. Jeg Sr, Jeg Jr., and John have each won four times. Mike has won twice and Troy Jr. added a 15th championship with last year’s Super Gas title.

The Coughlin’s have won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in nine different classes, Top Fuel, Pro Comp, Super Eliminator, Comp, Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

The Coughlin’s have won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events at 17 different tracks across North America including races in six of NHRA’s seven geographic divisions. They have not won in Division 6, the Pacific Northwest.

Family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won his first Lucas Oil Series event when he claimed the Super Eliminator title at Windsor Dragway in Windsor, Ontario in 1969.
