National Trail Raceway (Hebron, Ohio) July 18-20

This weekend, the Coughlin family will field four individual entries in the 13th annual Buckeye Fuel Wars North Central Division Lucas Oil Series event at their home track, National Trail Raceway. Mike Coughlin will compete in the Top Sportsman class. Third-generation racer Troy Coughlin Jr. will race in Super Comp and Super Gas and he will be joined by his older sister, Meghan, 26, who will be making her NHRA debut in the Super Street category.

The Coughlin family has won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in nine different classes, Top Fuel, Pro Comp, Super Eliminator, Comp, Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

The Coughlin’s have won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events at 17 different tracks across North America including races in six of NHRA’s seven geographic divisions. They have not won in Division 6, the Pacific Northwest.

The Coughlin family has claimed three Lucas Oil Series Divisional wins at National Trail Raceway. Mike won the Top Sportsman title in 2007, John won in Super Stock in 2002 and family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won the Pro Comp title in 1976. Troy Coughlin Jr. was also the runner-up in Super Comp at the 2013 National Trail event.

Meghan Coughlin is the oldest daughter of 2012 NHRA Pro Mod Series champion Troy Coughlin and the older sister of Troy Jr. She will be driving a JEGS Mail Order Chevy II wagon that was built by her uncle, six-time NHRA world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Jeg Coughlin Sr., Jeg Coughlin Jr., and John Coughlin have each won four North Central Division season championships while Mike Coughlin has two and Troy Coughlin Jr. has one for a total of 15.

Family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won his first Lucas Oil Series event when he claimed the Super Eliminator title at Windsor Dragway in Windsor, Ontario in 1969.

Mike Coughlin has won five national event titles at National Trail Raceway. He won in Super Comp in 2002 and 2003 and recorded back-to-back wins in Top Sportsman in 2006, 2007 and another in 2009.

All told, Mike Coughlin has won 13 NHRA national event titles in Pro Stock Truck, Super Comp, and Top Sportsman. Mike’s most recent win came two weeks ago when he drove his JEGS.com Camaro to the Top Sportsman title in Norwalk, Ohio.

Collectively, the Coughlin family has won 55 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional events.

In addition to their national and divisional event wins, the Coughlin’s have won three specialty events at National Trail Raceway. Jeg Jr. won the JEGS (Then TRW) Allstars race in 1991 and 1997 and John claimed a victory in the Top Dragster Shootout held during the 2007 JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals.

At the 2003 Columbus national event, the Coughlin family enjoyed one of their best events as they claimed a pair of victories. John won in Super Stock and Mike claimed the Super Comp title. The 1996 race was also memorable as Jeg Jr., scored a win in Super Stock and a runner-up finish in Super Gas.

All told, the Coughlin brothers, Troy, John, Mike and Jeg Jr., have combined to win 11 national events at National Trail Raceway, the team’s longtime home track. They have also tallied six runner-up finishes here.

Troy Coughlin Jr. is currently ranked No. 5 in the Division 3 points standings in the Super Gas class. Thus far in 2014, Troy Jr. has a pair of runner-up finishes at the divisional events in Reading, Pa. and Joliet, Ill.
