May 1st
Team JEG’S – Pro Stock
Troy Coughlin
Saturday Qualifying Summary
In the third qualifying session Troy Coughlin and his Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier posted a run of 6.908 at 199.26 mph. The run was not an improvement over the 6.878 he ran in the opening qualifying session on Friday.
Troy went into the final qualifying session looking to improve and move up in the qualifying order. He did not improve, but the team continued to learn more with each run. Troy ran a 7.026 at 198.35 mph.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be racing on Sunday and break the chain of DNQ’s we have had,” said Coughlin. “Obviously I have had some success here at Bristol Dragway and we would like nothing more then to win again here at this great facility. The guys have been working really hard and we just need to continue to eliminate errors.”
This is the first event of the 2004 NHRA POWERade season that Troy Coughlin has qualified for. Troy won the 2000 Winston Showdown specialty event at the track, which was his first win in Pro Stock. Troy also scored another first of his career at Bristol Raceway when he qualified No. 1 in 2002 in Pro Stock. It remains his only career No. 1 qualifying position in Pro Stock to date for the 10-year Pro Stock veteran.
In the opening round Troy will face off against Jason Line. The match up will put a Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Grand Am head-to-head.
