LAS VEGAS (Oct. 28) — Pro Mod racer Troy Coughlin can’t wait to slip behind the wheel of his ’68 Camaro and attack The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway at this weekend’s eighth annual ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals. At the same time, the 25-year drag racing veteran admits he’s excited just to see how everything’s going to unfold at the event, the final contest of the 10-race JEGS ProMod Challenge.

“There is so much going on this weekend and it’s going to be cool to see how it all turns out,” Coughlin said. “We have the closest championship race in the history of the JEGS ProMod Challenge going on and it’s exciting to think our team could play a role in deciding the champ. You never know how the ladder is going to come together.

“All I know for sure is that we have a great racecar on our hands and we’re going to be racing hard to win the event, regardless of who we match up with. I wish both Josh (Hernandez) and Tony (Pontieri) the best of luck in their individual quests for the JEGS title but our team is pretty darn hungry for a win ourselves.

“I’m also very excited about our year-ending party Sunday night at Treasure Island. It will be a lot of fun to get all the Pro Mod guys together in a social setting and celebrate the new champ and hand out some other special awards we’ve got planned. It will be a neat way to wrap up the year.”

The Vegas quarter-mile should look very familiar to Coughlin. His team tested there in mid-October immediately following the last JEGS ProMod Challenge event in Richmond, Va.

“It was a good test because we found an electrical problem that may have been with us for awhile,” Coughlin said. “I think we’ve finally got this car figured out.”

When he’s not racing, Coughlin will be supporting his brother Jeg Coughlin Jr., who is leading the POWERade points in the Pro Stock category with just the two events in Las Vegas and Pomona, Calif., left on the schedule.

“Jeg is having another fantastic year and we’ll be there for every pass he makes, cheering him on to victory,” Troy said. “It’ll be really neat if he can sew this deal up and win another world championship for JEGS Mail Order and all of our employees. We’re very proud of Jeg and his race team.”
