DELAWARE, Ohio (July 22)—Troy Coughlin Jr. scored a strong runner-up finish in his JEGS.com Super Comp dragster to highlight a great weekend of Division 3 action at his home track of National Trail Raceway in the Columbus suburb of Kirkersville, Ohio.
The third-generation driver also went a few rounds in the Super Gas category, but the runner-up finish in Super Comp was the highlight as it complimented the Super Gas victory he logged earlier this season in the first Division 3 tilt in Norwalk, Ohio.
"Overall, I feel I had a great weekend," Coughlin said. "It was great having my family out there with me and seeing some of our longtime friends. I have so many great memories from National Trail and we made a few more this weekend."
In the final of Super Comp, Coughlin took on Bill Riddle, who also won the event in the Top Dragster class. It was a very close race, but wasn’t meant to be for the grandson of JEGS patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr.
"It was a tight race in the finals," Coughlin said. "I missed the tree a little bit and it was just wasn’t enough, but hey, it happens. I’m ready to get back to the track this weekend for sure."
The next race on the schedule is July 26-28 in Stanton, Mich., for another divisional race. Time trials begin Friday morning with first round action starting Saturday evening. Once again, Coughlin will be driving both of his JEGS.com cars in Super Comp and Super Gas.
