BIOGRAPHY
The happiest place on earth for Troy Coughlin Jr. is the drag strip. It would be hard to find anyone who is more excited about all things related to the quarter-mile than Troy Jr., who eats, sleeps and breathes the sport.
Troy Jr.’s fervor should come as no surprise considering his linage. After all, he is the son of three-time Pro Mod world champion Troy Coughlin Sr. and the grandson of drag racing Hall of Fame member Jeg Coughlin Sr., who also happens to be the founder of industry giant JEGS Mail Order, the worldwide high-performance parts provider now owned by his father and uncles.
For Troy Jr., drag racing literally is his life.
As it turns out, Troy Jr. happens to be quite good at his passion. He’s already a three-time champion with 17 national, regional and divisional victories on his resume, not to mention a sack full of high-dollar bracket race titles.
From his earliest days in a Junior Dragster, to his first national event victory in Super Comp in 2009, to his Division 3 Super Gas crown from 2013, to back-to-back Top Alcohol Dragster titles in 2018-2019, and now in Pro Stock, Troy Jr. has been a winner.
Proving his versatility, Troy Jr. has twice won the U.S. Nationals, the sports longest-running and most prestigious event, and he’s been the overall points champion of the Moroso Memorial 5-Day Bracket Championship. He also was the Pro Mod Rookie of the Year honors in 2015, racing as a teammate to his father.
Troy Jr. also was named to Drag Illustrated’s “30 Under 30” list, which honors the “brightest young people in drag racing,” according to the magazine.
Away from racing, Troy Jr. enjoys spending time with his wife Brenna and rooting for all the sports teams at The Ohio State University. He’s also one of the top associates at JEGS.
