Pre Race Summary
Troy Coughlin is excited to get behind the wheel at the NHRA O’Reilly Summer Nationals this weekend in Topeka, KS. The 39-year old second generation driver won his second professional NHRA title at this event in 2002 and scored a runner up finish in 1999.
Coughlin has qualified for the last three events. He is in a position to make a bold jump up in the NHRA POWERade championship with another strong performance at a track that he has had success. Coughlin is currently in the No. 20 position and could move as high as the No. 14 spot.
“I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made lately; things are definitely looking up, but now it’s time to capitalize on what we’ve done,” explained Coughlin. “My goal for the next few races is to start qualifying higher. Anytime you can get out of the bottom half of the field, you have a much greater chance of winning some rounds on race day.”
EVENT FAST FACTS:
Troy Coughlin won the Topeka event in 2002, scoring his second career Pro Stock victory. He reached the winner’s circle with wins over Greg Anderson, JR Carr, Jeg Coughlin, and Mark Whisnant
