Troy Coughlin and his Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier ended the first of two scheduled days of qualifying sitting in the No. 9 position.
In the first session the 10-year Pro Stock veteran laid down an impressive run of 6.892 at 200.68 mph to start the weekend. The run was good enough to put him in the No. 10 spot.
The yellow and black Jeg’s Chevrolet improved during the second session. Coughlin posted a run of 6.866 at 200.71 mph and moved up one spot to land in the No. 9 position.
“We made a solid run right out of the trailer and that’s the way we wanted to start the weekend,” explained Coughlin. “The testing we did in St. Louis before coming here to Chicago definitely helped us. Jerry Bickel and his guys went out of their way to help get us going in the right direction and we certainly appreciate it.”
There are two remaining qualifying sessions that will be held tomorrow (Saturday) before the field is set for the 7th annual NHRA Route 66 Nationals. The sessions are scheduled for 12:15 PM and 3:00 PM respectively.
