Troy Coughlin
Friday Qualifying Summary

Troy Coughlin head into the Checker Schuck’s Kragen Nationals looking to rebound from a season opening DNQ last week. However, the second generation driver is upbeat and is ready move forward.

In the first of four scheduled qualifying sessions Troy posted a run of 6.921 at 200.86 mph. He moved into the No. 24 position by the end of the opening session. However, the JEG’S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier went straight down the middle of the groove and gave the team a solid baseline to improve from.

“We made a decent run from point A to point B in the opening session and the JEG’S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier went straight down the middle of the groove,” said Troy. “We put a fresh engine between the frame rails that showed up at the track just before noon. The team pulled together to get the new piece ready to go down the track.”

Troy pulled up to the starting line in the second qualifying session ready to break into the quick-16 qualifying positions. His run was an improvement and he landed in the No. 19 spot with a 6.861 at 201.52 mph.

“We are getting closer,” commented Troy. “We just got too aggressive in second gear and it caused the rear of the car to spin. I think we found the line we don’t want to cross tomorrow.”
