Troy Coughlin
Saturday Qualifying Summary

Troy Coughlin was in the No. 20 position when the second day of qualifying began in Topeka, KS. The 39-year-old second-generation driver was determined to break into the quick-16 and be driving his Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier on race day for the fourth straight event.

In the third session Coughlin posted a run of 6.909 at 198.76 mph. The run was the ninth quickest of the session and he broke into the quick-16. Coughlin ultimately landed in the No. 16 position by the close of the session.

“We have improved with each run,” explained Coughlin after his run. “The moves we have made haven’t been huge, but we are going in the right direction.”

Coughlin was the man on the bubble going into the final session. The team remained focused and posted a run of 6.954 at 198.15 mph. The yellow and black Jeg’s Chevrolet stayed in the No. 16 spot.

“I wasn’t sure if we were still in or out when I pulled into the waterbox,” commented Coughlin. “I knew no matter what we needed to make a good run. As it turned out we stayed No. 16 and we will have a yellow and black Jeg’s Mail Order Chevy Cavalier racing tomorrow (Sunday).”

Troy Coughlin will face off against No. 1 qualifier and former Pro Stock Truck driver Steve Johns in the opening round. Lane choice will go to Johns. This is the fourth straight race Coughlin has qualified for this season.
