Former Pro Stock star Troy Coughlin will be hitting the racetrack soon in his brand-new Jerry Haas-built Jeg’s Mail Order Pontiac GTO. The turbo-charged machine will be put through several shakedown runs before entering the next IHRA race, where it will run a few exhibition passes so the rule makers can put together guidelines the car must run under. Once approved by the IHRA, Coughlin will be eligible to run NHRA events in the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge.

Coughlin expects the car to be completed within three weeks. The Jeg’s race team is currently waiting on a next generation Sonny Leonard hemispherical Chevy powerplant that will top out at 511 cubic inches.

“I can’t wait to run this car,” Coughlin said. “It’s just so cool to look at. I’m sure it’ll be a crowd favorite, especially among the Pro Mod set. I have to thank Jerry for building such an awesome car.

“We’ll use the remainder of year to get this thing figured out. Our plan is to run the AMS series in 2007 and make a push for the championship. I love the class and the people in it and I’m anxious to get back out there.”
